The Segway Tour that Fights Cancer
I reached out to Pistols And Popcorn a few weeks ago offering up my Segway Tour for her fundraising efforts for the LiveStrong Foundation and Team Fatty (The 411 on Team Fatty is here). It’s been pretty hard to stay tight liped about it but this morning Jodi (Mrs. Pistols and Popcorn) announced our raffle on her blog. For every $5.00 donation you make to her Livestrong Challenge page a virtual raffle ticket will be generated for you to win your spot on the private tour. The only way on the Tour is by donating and winning. So if you were to donate $65 (the cost of the tour) you’d get 13 virtual spots; $100 gets you 20 tickets in the lottery…If you didn’t bother following the link, here is the awesome copy Mrs. Sonray provided (she’s a way better wordsmith than I):
“You’ve been reading her blog for years. You voted her into the winner’s circle of the Bloggies and you know more about her than you know about your grandma. You’ve heard all about the Segway Personal Transporter but don’t understand it as it defies what your Physics teacher taught you. You giggle at these things, but secretly really (really really) want to take one out for a spin. You also have some strong animosity towards Cancer and want to help fight it.
If this sounds like you (and you know it does), you’ll want to be buying a raffle ticket for the Pistols ‘n Popcorn Segway Tour of the Hudson River & Historic Poughkeepsie. Long name, no doubt, but loads of fun. You’ll get to glide (that’s what us Segway folks call it) along the Hudson with Jodi & Anson on your very own Segway PT for at least 2 hours, taking in the gorgeous Hudson River. You’ll get to scope the bridge that held the title of Longest Bridge In The World for a measly 2 weeks before Jodi’s own Brooklyn Bridge stole the title. You’ll learn all about the elusive river monster that lurks in the Hudson. You’ll see (& covet) one hell of a mustache one of the Segway guys sports. You get to get out of the damn city for a day & enjoy the rest of New York (gasp!). Did I mention you get to hang with Jodi? And fight cancer at the same time??”
Jodi about $1000 short of her goal; let’s help her glide over the goal line by donating here!
The UltraMotor A2B 7 speeds give you a wide gear range for when you are pedaling - The 500 watt brush-less motor is there to back you up when you get tired.
The Lithium Ion battery gives you maximum performance with a 20 mile range and a top speed of 20mph. 80mm of front suspension and 150mm of rear suspension keeps the ride smooth. There are a few really nice touches that show the quality of the build - internal cable routing for a clean look as well as a forward mounted bottom bracket that gives you optimum leg extension when peddling but allows you to be flat footed when stopped.
The A2B has seen a lot of time in the press lately:
I’m pretty excited about the Portia too. Slightly less performance at a great price.
The Cast Aluminum Wheels look pretty sweet too. We’re excited to bring Ultramotor’s line of environmentally friendly electric bicycles to the Hudson Valley. Performance and quality have never looked so good. Stop by for a test ride to see for yourself!
The black tarp pictured was laid down to protect the surface during construction. When the bridge is opened the tarp will be removed for a smooth surface.
Looking North. One of our current Segway Tours goes across that bridge below and glides along the road parallel to the railway tracks.
I stayed in the middle, away from the edges.
View of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and Poughkeepsie’s Waterfront district. Can you see our headquarters?
195 feet to the ground.
The views and experience were better than anything I had imagined. While the deck doesn’t yet go over the water, the full experience will be well worth the wait. Thank you to the

I like the fact that it covers up the white lables that signify what button is what…gives the InfoKey that ’sleeper’ look. It also helps the ket fit more snug on the bars.
$16 plus shipping (U.S. Only) makes for an inexspensive alternative. -Sonray-
