The Segway Tour that Fights Cancer

I reached out to Pistols And Popcorn a few weeks ago offering up my Segway Tour for her fundraising efforts for the LiveStrong Foundation and Team Fatty (The 411 on Team Fatty is here).  It’s been pretty hard to stay tight liped about it but this morning Jodi (Mrs. Pistols and Popcorn) announced our raffle on her blog. For every $5.00 donation you make to her Livestrong Challenge page a virtual raffle ticket will be generated for you to win your spot on the private tour. The only way on the Tour is by donating and winning. So if you were to donate $65 (the cost of the tour) you’d get 13 virtual spots; $100 gets you 20 tickets in the lottery…If you didn’t bother following the link, here is the awesome copy Mrs. Sonray provided (she’s a way better wordsmith than I):

You’ve been reading her blog for years. You voted her into the winner’s circle of the Bloggies and you know more about her than you know about your grandma. You’ve heard all about the Segway Personal Transporter but don’t understand it as it defies what your Physics teacher taught you. You giggle at these things, but secretly really (really really) want to take one out for a spin.  You also have some strong animosity towards Cancer and want to help fight it.

If this sounds like you (and you know it does), you’ll want to be buying a raffle ticket for the Pistols ‘n Popcorn Segway Tour of the Hudson River & Historic Poughkeepsie. Long name, no doubt, but loads of fun. You’ll get to glide (that’s what us Segway folks call it) along the Hudson with Jodi & Anson on your very own Segway PT for at least 2 hours, taking in the gorgeous Hudson River. You’ll get to scope the bridge that held the title of Longest Bridge In The World for a measly 2 weeks before Jodi’s own Brooklyn Bridge stole the title. You’ll learn all about the elusive river monster that lurks in the Hudson. You’ll see (& covet) one hell of a mustache one of the Segway guys sports. You get to get out of the damn city for a day & enjoy the rest of New York (gasp!). Did I mention you get to hang with Jodi? And fight cancer at the same time??

Jodi about $1000 short of her goal; let’s help her glide over the goal line by donating here!

UltraMotor Electric Bicycles

Sunray Mobility has become an UltraMotor dealer! UltraMotor is an awesome company that produces electric bicycles like the A2B and Portia with a few exciting vechicals coming:   The UltraMotor A2B 7 speeds give you a wide gear range for when you are pedaling - The 500 watt brush-less motor is there to back you up when you get tired. The Lithium Ion battery gives you maximum performance with a 20 mile range and a top speed of 20mph. 80mm of front suspension and 150mm of rear suspension keeps the ride smooth. There are a few really nice touches that show the quality of the build - internal cable routing for a clean look as well as a forward mounted bottom bracket that gives you optimum leg extension when peddling but allows you to be flat footed when stopped. The A2B has seen a lot of time in the press lately: Auto Blog GreenWiredTIME and the NY Times among others.  I’m pretty excited about the Portia too. Slightly less performance at a great price. The Cast Aluminum Wheels look pretty sweet too.  We’re excited to bring Ultramotor’s line of environmentally friendly electric bicycles to the Hudson Valley. Performance and quality have never looked so good. Stop by for a test ride to see for yourself!

Walkway Over the Hudson

It’s been 400 years since Henry Hudson sailed his ship up the Hudson River and 2009 marks the Quadricentennial of his journey. The whole state has some fantastic celebrations all year long with perhaps the crown jewel being the conversion of the Poughkeepsie Rail Road bridge into a multi-use path called Walkway Over the Hudson.  Construction began last year and they already have a significant amount of deck down. Yesterday we were invited out onto the completed section for a preview: The black tarp pictured was laid down to protect the surface during construction. When the bridge is opened the tarp will be removed for a smooth surface. Looking North. One of our current Segway Tours goes across that bridge below and glides along the road parallel to the railway tracks. I stayed in the middle, away from the edges.  View of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and Poughkeepsie’s Waterfront district. Can you see our headquarters? 195 feet to the ground.  The views and experience were better than anything I had imagined. While the deck doesn’t yet go over the water, the full experience will be well worth the wait. Thank you to the Walkway Over the Hudson staff who invited us on the preview excursion! I hear the ribbon cutting will happen October 2, 2009 - right before peak foliage. You’ll have to stay tuned to hear how we’ll be involved…

Many have asked, “What is this event all about?” or “How can I use this at my job?” As young professionals, many of us are moving into new positions of authority. With these new positions, we are commonly tasked with heading work teams that are comprised of individuals that have varying ages, backgrounds and work experience. Many times getting these teams to work as a cohesive unit can be a huge struggle. My seminar will teach you how to encourage diverse groups of people into becoming a strategic force for success. The ability to leverage each individuals talents and experience is a tremendous asset in today’s information age. Using your team leadership skills effectively can give you the edge over your competition, help you stand out in a crowd and become the employee that can get things done. Add another tool in your career toolbox, attend this seminar and show your colleagues what it means to be a true leader for your organization. Build your team, make things happen, and enjoy your success!

Segway’s P.U.M.A. Concept

Segway in partnership with GM has unveiled a new concept vehicle, the P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility)

Segway's P.U.M.A. Rendering

Technical information is available on Segway’s website.

Segway's P.U.M.A. Concept

I think most people are missing that this is a concept transportation device - the unpolished pictures that are currently online is a prototype and isn’t anything like what the production version could look like. If you’ve ever glided on a Personal Transporter (PT) you have an understanding of the technology involved. The P.U.M.A. concept uses the PT’s Dynamic Stabilization except operation looks to be a little different but just as intuitive:

Congratulations to Segway for their further thinking outside the box on transportation alternitives. This certainly isn’t the only answer to solve our transportation needs but it can play a roll in the solution. Hopefully we can see this come to market. As a member of New York’s leading Segway dealer, I look forward to the day I can purchase one to help reduce my carbon footprint and be done with my oil addiction. Team Sunray is planning on heading to New York Auto Show on Friday to see the P.U.M.A. Concept, check back for more photos and hopefully some other cool N.E.V.’s (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle).

Photos and video are from Segway Inc’s website.

Oh the places you’ll go!

Segway just released a compatibility test on their website: http://www.segway.com/compatibility/ I just took it and I’m happy to say I’m compatiable (good thing being that I’m a dealer and all). Its really cool, clean, sleek and gives you excelent information. I had no idea that I’m responsable for over 700lbs of carbon each month. Its deffinatly worth a few minuets of your time.

In other news, we have lots and lots of cool things happening in the next few months but its still a little too early to talk about it - I guess thats non-news huh?

Segway / Sunray Update

- Segway Tours -

2008 isn’t over, and neither are our tours. We’ve still been booking and running tours in spite of the dropping temperatures, reaffirming my opinion that North Easterners are the toughest bunch (just booked 6 for this weekend alone). We’ve also been selling a lot of Tour Gift Certificates, good for either side of the freezing mark. I think a Segway Tour would make a great gift, but I also lead the tours so that may be biased. We’re running a special for those on our email list. If you’r not on the list, get on it and I’ll extend the special to you. Tour Gift Certificates can be sent via Email, snail mail or in-store pick up, whatever works best for you.We will be adding at least two more tour routes to the mix for 2009. The Gift Certificates can be used on these new tour routes, no matter what the price ends up being

.- 2009-

Besides offering more tour options, we’re expanding our product line with lifts, ramps, lift chairs, a deeper scooter line, stairlifts, vehicle lifts, rollators, standing aids and perhaps a few other exciting mobility surprises. I never envisioned being a part of this industry nor did I expect to get excited about the products we’re bringing in, but we’ve got some really cool tools to help us all get around a little easier in a ‘green’ way. 2009 is going to be a lot of fun.

 - Rentals -

We are now offering rentals! Rent for a day, week, month or any other amount of time. Scooters and ramps are currently available with a plan of including other products in our rental fleet as need dictates. Rent Auntie Jane a Scooter to take her to a fair, DIA or out to lunch; she’ll be raving about how thoughtful you are and how much fun she had for years. We’re aways happy to credit the rental towards the purchase or even work with you on a layaway scenario. If you’ve worked with us in the past you know that we’re willing to work with you to get you the help that you need. If you haven’t worked with us what are you waiting for?

Did you know: We do Corporate Events, Mobile Advertising, Team Building, etc? At your site or ours; give us a call with your idea, and chances are we’ve probably already made it a reality.

Segway InfoKey Protectors Now Available

I always love it when the FedEx guy comes in. He always brings exciting goodies.

We just received a shipment of Segway’s InfoKey Protectors. Just like a iPod cover these rubbery skins go over your info key cradling it from the inevitable drop. There is also a screen protector so the face doesn’t get scratched.

I like the fact that it covers up the white lables that signify what button is what…gives the InfoKey that ’sleeper’ look. It also helps the ket fit more snug on the bars. $16 plus shipping (U.S. Only) makes for an inexspensive alternative.   -Sonray-
